Eight Sabahans in showbusiness are living proof that 1Malaysia is achievable, writes DENNIS CHUA. THE government’s 1Malaysia concept, that all Malaysians have an equal opportunity to excel in their chosen careers, rings loud and clear in show business, and eight Sabahans are living proof of it.
Television personality, actor and scriptwriter Farish Aziz, budding actresses Noni Zainuddin and Balkisyh Khan, and vocal powerhouses Norashikin (Ekin) Rahman, Nordawati (Nora) Daud, Rehana (Han) Yunus, Nor Fazelah (Zizi) Tahil and Rubisa Tiasin have become household names in Sabah over the last four years and are determined to “grow with the shows”.
Discovered by television stations Astro, ntv7, TV3, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and 8TV via talent searches and reality shows, they are keen to excel in their respective careers and believe that being versatile is the key to being marketable

Noni ZainuddinSHE was Farish and Adam’s cousin and finished 11th in AF5.
The Kota Kinabalu-born Sino-Kadazan is currently appearing in television dramas on Astro and performs with Farish in Gempaq Selebriti.
Said Noni: “While I didn’t do well as a singer, my instructors in AF told me I could act. Thus, I went all out to be an actress.”Noni, who also hosts shows on Astro, admits that at times, producers and directors can be “terrifying”, but accepts that it’s part of the learning process.
Noni has appeared in eight television series, including Papaku Rock, Gaia and Pria where she acted alongside Adam.
“Adam, Nikki and Farish are like my ‘guardian angels’. They said the key to being successful is to make friends, be humble and be myself. Putting on ‘masks’ never gets you anywhere,” she said.
Noni aspires to be a scriptwriter and producer too.
She has great respect for KRU, Sarimah Ibrahim and Aznil Nawawi, and is honoured to have been part of the latter’s last AF season.
“I’m a great fan of magic and would love to teach fans some tricks on television,” she said, adding that she worked on a hit single produced by Damian Seet of VE fame.
